Ingredients
Scale
1 lb ground beef
4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
1 large onion, diced
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2 cups beef broth
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
Add the ground beef to the skillet, season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned, breaking up the meat as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture, stirring to combine, and cook for 1 minute. Slowly pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the beef mixture and 1 cup of shredded cheese. Repeat the layers.
Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
Use Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes for best results.
For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika or cayenne pepper.
Feel free to add vegetables like carrots or peas for added nutrition.
