  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add molasses, egg, and vanilla, mixing until combined.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until dough forms. Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into shapes.
  • Place cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are set.
  • Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating.
