Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add sugar, evaporated milk, salt, melted butter, egg, flour, and vanilla. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead for about 5-7 minutes, then place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  • Roll out dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into donut shapes. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil to 350°F and fry donuts for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  • Mix glaze ingredients until smooth, then dip warm donuts into glaze. Let set on a wire rack.

Notes

  • Ensure yeast is active by checking for foam before mixing ingredients.
  • For extra fluffy donuts, allow a second rise after shaping.
  • Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container.
