Homemade wonton soup is a comforting, flavorful dish featuring delicate wontons filled with seasoned pork or shrimp in a rich, savory broth.

For the Wontons:

  • 30 wonton wrappers
  • ½ lb ground pork (or shrimp)
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp white pepper

For the Broth:

  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • ½ inch ginger, sliced
  • 2 green onions, chopped

For Garnish:

 

  • Chopped green onions
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Chili oil (optional)

Instructions

 

  1. Prepare the Wontons: In a bowl, mix pork (or shrimp), green onions, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and white pepper.
  2. Fill the Wontons: Place 1 tsp of filling in each wonton wrapper. Fold and seal the edges with water.
  3. Make the Broth: In a pot, heat sesame oil, add garlic and ginger, then pour in chicken broth, water, and soy sauce. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Cook the Wontons: Bring broth to a boil, add wontons, and cook until they float (about 4-5 minutes).
  5. Serve: Ladle soup into bowls, garnish with green onions, cilantro, and optional chili oil.

Notes

  • You can use store-bought wonton wrappers for convenience.
  • Substitute pork with shrimp or chicken for variety.
  • Freeze extra wontons for later use.
