Lunchroom Ladies Brownies are a classic, fudgy, and rich chocolate treat, just like the ones from school cafeterias. Made with simple ingredients and topped with a delicious chocolate frosting, these nostalgic brownies are perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownies:

  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Frosting:

  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, mix melted butter and cocoa powder until smooth.
  • Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla, mixing until combined.
  • Stir in flour and salt, then pour batter into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • For the frosting, mix butter, cocoa powder, and milk in a bowl. Gradually add powdered sugar and stir until smooth.
  • Spread frosting over warm brownies. Let cool before slicing.

Notes

  • For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake them.
  • Let the brownies cool slightly before frosting to prevent melting.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
