  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook ziti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • In a skillet, cook ground beef or sausage until browned. Drain excess fat and mix in marinara sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • In a bowl, combine ricotta, cream cheese, 1 cup mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  • Layer in a greased baking dish:
    • Half the cooked ziti
    • Half the cheese mixture
    • Half the meat sauce
    • Repeat layers, then top with remaining mozzarella cheese.
  • Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden.
  • Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add red pepper flakes or Italian seasoning to the sauce.
  • Substitute ziti with penne or rigatoni if needed.
  • Can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated, then baked before serving.
