Toasted Italian Sandwich Recipe

Make a mouthwatering Toasted Italian Sandwich with layers of savory meats, gooey melted cheese, and crisp vegetables on toasted bread.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices Italian bread or ciabatta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 slices turkey salami or beef pepperoni
  • 4 slices halal smoked turkey or chicken
  • 2 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup fresh arugula or spinach leaves
  • 1/2 medium tomato, sliced
  • 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise (optional)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat a skillet or sandwich press over medium heat.
  • Brush one side of each bread slice with olive oil.
  • Layer turkey salami, smoked turkey, cheese, arugula, tomato slices, and onion on the un-oiled side of two bread slices. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes if desired.
  • Spread mayonnaise on the inside of the remaining bread slices (optional). Place on top to form sandwiches.
  • Grill the sandwiches in the skillet or press until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3–4 minutes per side.
  • Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use a non-stick pan for easy grilling.
  • For a spicier flavor, add a few jalapeño slices.
  • Serve with a side of marinara sauce or a light salad for a complete meal.
